Great few days working the old E 30-60 Threshermans Special at Dorset. Burned all my fuel, all 40 gallons of it (rather quickly!!) and really enjoyed doing so. I have quite a few tractors, many of which were considered large in their era, but this is without doubt, the most powerful kerosene-engined tractor that I have ever driven - those 563 cubic inches just don't quit! The exhaust note is so loud that it will take a week for my hearing to recover. Thanks to Dave and Mark Everett for their company and advice (and for those original, new old stock spark plugs!).

By the way, I didn't get round to belting the old girl up to the dyno which was there at the show, but I will do so as soon as I get the chance - I reckon that the power output of that 5 1/4 bore engine would surprise a few of the diesel-heads!!!

Sorry to disappoint Folks, but my OilPull is only a 25-40, not an "E" and it is still in the USA until we can get it shipped home! The E 30-60 is a 1935 Allis-Chalmers "Thresherman's Special" (also known in its day in the UK as the Allis "EK")  Basically, it is an E 25-40, factory equipped with the 5 1/4" bore version of the K crawler engine and rated as a 30-60. Only a few were made and it was intended for contractors who needed something with more grunt to tackle seriously heavy-duty belt work. I'm afraid that I was too busy driving it to take any pics of it working, but here it is in the shed at home.

40 gallons eh? If your E burns like my 563 kero A then you had about 6.5 hours of fun. In that states that is about $24 per hour but it doesn't ake a calculator to know its darn well worth it,,, now and then.

Butch, maybe you could help me with another matter. Could you please measure the end-to-end length of the tubular drag link from the steering drop arm to the front (the one which runs alongside the engine) on your A and let me know its exact length. The one on my A has been broken and mended in the past and is the wrongg length. I want to replace it by welding a new section of tube to the two ends. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Butch, Have you ever belted that 5 1/4" kero A to a dyno? It would be interesting to know just what those big old 5 1/4" engines can punch out, running on TVO or kerosene!

I know he's belted it to an Allis silage chopper-blower and made a little smoke. :)
