Well the saga continues - bought a used case - again said it worked - NOPE ground like mad when power applied - no link between transmission and main shaft output-
opened it up and the spline coupler that engages the inside of planetary not sliding into unit .
So 3rd case setting in shop - truck up on jackstands - and my patience being tested on this full snow plowing thing .
So ordered a set of clutch discs , bearing and seal for my original case from truck - put in 10 new friction discs - 10 new steel discs and spacer shim from the clutch pack . Old clutch stack had 10 friction and 9 steel in it but that seemed lose so added the 10th steel . Is back in but have shafts and actuator to hook up yet .
Today project after i finish my coffee or ???
So clutch pack was $60 for the set here from local auto supply discount store down in St Paul Park . They dont have a service counter , or ask you a bunch of questions and many times just tell you go into back room in row 4 shelf in center and get what you need - here is part number (written on scrap of paper )  seems they have a discount system also for cash - rounded off price

Well spent Sunday afternoon and night finishing the job , yesterday picked up the tools and drove the truck out of shop in 2 WD - tried going up hill in yard - spun rear tires - put it into 4 WD climbed up ice easily , tried 4 WD Autotrack - works there also .
So the easy repair only took 2 weeks to do what I should have done the first time i had problems , replace clutch pack in case, could have done it i n2 days if I would have just worked on it.
So now have 2 extra transfer cases one for parts and one used good unit but for later model GM units .
Now if someone needs a NP 246 transfer case for 2004 or later with the round splined input shaft or actuator motors for either type early or late - I have them for sale .
