 Topic: Gleaner K2 setup for alsyke clover

Newbie on the farm. Want to harvest clover seed using a Gleaner K2, what do I need and what would be starting setup. I'll most probably need to be walked around as it's very new to me...don't know the lingo nor the operation yet....

 grgry, welcome to the AC forum. This picture will help identify different older gleaner components for you. It says F2, but K2 is basically the same layout, but K2 has one less straw walker in width. If you have an Operator’s Manual for your K2, start reading it. It will explain many necessary operations, setups, & servicing for it. AllisChalmerGuy’s link is a great start too. In it, carefully study Tbran’s good advice. Pay special attention to his FAN ADVISE. Please share some about your K2 - gas or diesel? - serial number(located on ID plate on rear left under engine ladder)? - platform size 10’,12’,13’,15’???? -Unloading auger-manual or hydraulic swing out?

Hi AC7060IL Thanks for the graphic. I don't have the machine on hand for the serial # It's a gas operated machine and would guesstimate the platform to 12 ft maybe 10, it's a little wider than the machine itself. Don't know what type of auger. Just bought the machine about 20 miles away and still need to go and get it. Plan to do eventually up to 30 acres of Alsike clover and 15 acres of phacilia.
Got into beekeeping and trying to vertically incorporate the whole process from the flowers, bees and queen raising to the extraction of honey. Crazy retirement project.. Once again thanks...

Hi are you going to use a Draper front or are you going to direct harvest I have found direct harvesting the best but your paddocks need to be like a bowling green the drum needs to be fast and tight I use a 3mm set riddle in the top and check for leaks .this works on the massy 400 and New Holland 1540 / TF 42 I use to run. Best of luck

Hi Kiwi, Thanks for the return, I do have a draper on the front. The field is far from a bowling alley even though we removed tons of rocks. And it's on an rolling incline.

I’m not familiar with that type of clover but we regularly combine red clover. My combine settings are as follows.
Adjust the cylinder down with thrasher engaged at idle until you hear the cylinder tapping the concaves. Adjust up until clicking stops and tighten it down. That’s a good time to zero your cylinder clearance scale.
Fan at 2. Catch a handful of chaff coming on the back of the shoe whit friend driving and look for clover seed blowing over. Adjust fan slightly up or down to clean sample or eliminate blowing over.
Solid grain pan installed below sieve to direct clover into clean grain.
Top sieve open around 3/8”. This is the one I’m having the most trouble remembering. If you find your overloading tailings to get a clean sample you may have to tighten this down a little.
Bottom sieve open around 1/4. Close until sample cleans up.
We spray to kill the plants so it’s all dry going in the machine and cut standing crop. If you don’t want to spray you will have to cut it with a sickle mower and rake early with dew on and pick up the windrows. We used to do it that way when I was a kid and had greater loss.

Thanks Wekracer. It gives me a starting point. Looking at # of seeds per pound, it would appear that the white clover is 1/3 the size of the red clover (728k vs 272K for red). once again thanks..
