 Topic: Gleaner F2, series 3 flex head?

Just wondering if the series 3 flex head will mount up ok on a f2? I know it will need some wiring since it is hydraulic drive reel. Also I know the header height wont work but I don't have that for my current header and get along just fine.
Currently running a rough floating head with the pit man drive.. broke the driveshaft in the fall and sickles are pretty dull. Have been keeping my eye out for another head but there isn't really that many around, so might end up fixing the old one up.
Just wanted to know if anyone has upgraded to the series 3 on a F2..
My M2 has a 315 flex that is hillbilly wired by that previous owner but couldn't get the reel speed to change, so I have some electrical work to do I guess.

Series 3 heads hook up the same way as the older models. Some years ago, I remember our local AGCO dealer sold a kit for getting the hydraulic reel to work on older models.
It is very hard to find good used heads. Everyone wants series 3 heads, so that drives up the prices, even for junky ones. I would be tempted to do a major rebuild on the one you already have.

Yeah I was pretty sure a series 3 would fit. Just wanted to check for sure
I am really thinking about fixing up that floating cutter bar head. Worked fine for me and probably wouldn't cost too much too fix up nicely. Previous owner put poly under it, would have to put in new sickles/ replace the driveshaft. put some new tines etc. probably paint the wood bats while I'm at it. The m2 worked great with the 315 flex so will use that as my main machine. But that header also needs work too.

Move up to a JD head for your F2. A big improvement on a Gleaner. MACK

What would I need to be able to use a JD flex? Haven't seen many bish adapters around.. I agree it would be nice though, and there is still quite a few jd heads

I made my own adapter but I'm sure one of the company makes one.

F2 combine. 216 JD head.
200 series JD head is 6 inches shorter than Gleaner or 900 series. First head was 215, too short for 6- 30" rows. MACK

does "shorter" mean narrower? My 15ft Gleaner F2 w/wobble box fits 6-30's nicely

Yep a Deere head is narrower than a Gleaner. A 15 won't fit 6-30 and a 20 won't fit 8-30.

Thanks for the info, Was it difficult to build the adapter? Me and dad are pretty handy with steel/metal fabrication so could probably build something.
How does the F2 hand the 16 foot? good rasp bars in it probably

Nick, I have wide space bars and F2 is happy at 3.5mph in 60bu beans cutting 6-30's.You can go faster but settings need to b spot on for that.
