Ever since I got my F2 in 2016  the fuel restriction light would flicker. Changed the screw on fuel filter in 2017 and emptied out the bowl.. Still hasn't gone away, and actually just drove the combine 25 miles and up the hills it really struggled. I was trying to see if there was smoke and it looked like it was putting out a lot of black smoke.... Has the 4 cylinder turbo engine

I wouldn't think that it would blow black smoke if it's restricted but I'm no mechanic. My M2 had the air filter light on so I changed it and the light went out. Could it be the air filter in the F2 causing issues? Wouldn't think that would cause the fuel restriction light to come on but who knows, maybe they hooked the wrong wires up. And i honestly haven't checked the air filter.

Also how many psi boost should a 7040 show at idle/no load? put a gauge on it and it didn't really move from 0.. If I revved it  went up to maybe 4 psi mind you no load so maybe not enough exhaust gas to build a lot of boost.

Can't speak for the 7040, but we also run a F2 that suffers from the "yellow" light pertaining to a restriction, DON'T let it get to be a steady/solid yellow(and I could swear it turned red),because it WILL seriously bog down. Have you looked into the tank to see if there is still an internal tank filter? Ours is long gone so we(I) clean the sediment bowl/screen often. Pretty sure our combine tank is starting to "shed" something but I don't think it's algae. It's some kind of gray/gritty substance and we maintain the over/head supply tanks' filter. If you find a cure, please share.

There is probably a lot of crud that has built up in your fuel tank over the last 30+ years.  Take the tank off and get it flushed out.  My dad had lots of problems with the tanks on his K and F combines.  Flushing fixed the problems.

The Fuel light is red... Going up the hills I had to pull back on the variable speed. Probably the tank will need to be cleaned..
