That should be a 1967 which is one of the later straight 'E's. E III came in 1968

The Gleaner Model E combine's beginning serial numbers per year, taken from Norm Swinford's book "Allis-Chalmers Farm Equipment 1914-1985."

Why was there no EII combine, but instead designated an EIII? You had the A, AII, C, and CII combines, but then the E was replaced with the EIII? I know the K Gleaner was the successor to the EIII. The EIII is a good test plot combine, local dealer had one years ago and when they sold it used, it was to be used as a test plot combine. |

Yeah the EII was never officially modeled. In one of the archived threads on this forum, someone pointed out that during it's production years, EII updates happened (I don't recall that year now). Even though it was never modeled as EII, dealerships recognized it anyway. I'll try to search it and get a link for that later.

I looked at this machine yesterday and came to the conclusion that AC had added the larger hopper to some base E's before releasing the EIII as this unit was pre the s/n you listed and had the larger hopper. anyone have a idea of the road speed if everything is up to snuff? This machine is 110 miles from home and so far I have not found a trailer capable without a commercial system. I could removed the head but still have height issues with what I have available.. Thanks

My 1966 Gleaner E's dealership brochure states gear speeds as follows: 1st gear 0.6-1.8 mph 2nd gear 1.6-4.8 mph 3rd gear 3.8-11.8 mph I'm assuming those speeds correspond to standard drive tire sizes: Standard drive wheels were: 13.6"-26" Optional drive wheels were: 16.9-26 or Rice Lug 14.9-26. For trailer info: It weighs 6750 with a 10' header, It's wheel track is 76", It's height is 8' - 9-1/4" (without stopler cab), It's length is 24' - 5", It's wheelbase is 108",
