Hello all, putting new stationary teeth (concave) in my L3's chopper, fresh from AGCO they seem dull, but definitely better than the old ones.
Should I sharpen these before I put them in? I'm guessing they should go in as is but thought I'd ask. Thanks. BTW flail blades are good, nice flat edges

The knives do the cutting. They need something to whack against. The factory concave is fine as is. I doubt you could tell the difference if you sharpen them.

Ok thanks, other forums suggested that the spinning flails should have a square dull edge and these concave teeth need an edge on them.
One guy said he sharpened the flails and it made it worse. It works ok now but had several missing teeth, $16~ a piece from AGCO in Canada Matt |

The edge of the flails isn't that picky either. What you have to pay attention to is the corners getting rounded off. Round corners won't grab damp straw. Next thing you know you are baling the back end and wrecking walkers and cranks.

They sharpen them in the rotary machines.

False blanket statement. My 97 R62 is just like the conventionals only blades are some bigger. Have seen S? series with fine cut chopper had sharp knifes.
