I have one just like it. It is the steel mill special also. Didn't know there were any more around. Mine has a GP bucket.

Looks good, nice canopy too. The joke was that Caterpillar wore out two air planes flying around the Arizona proving ground while they tested the 12G. It was advanced for the time. Too little too late, though- by the mid 70's the hydraulic excavator was taking over.

Here's a 12GB we saved from scrapping to ad to our collection.It's a 1975 STEEL MILL SPECIAL and was used here on the west coast to load big redwood logs. It has a brake problem and an engine problem (nothing we can't fix).We got the call Sat night it was headed for the scrap yard Monday, it was rerouted here (close call). Restoration starts as soon as were done with the HD5B dozer
