WD 45 Cutting Out

   Over the past several months my WD 45 cut out, ran rough, and then died a couple of times.  Both times, it did start up again and run.  Today, pushing snow, after running a couple of hours it did the same thing, then started.  It did it twice more over the next ten minutes, and I managed to get it started the third time and back to the shed.  Gas is running well from the tank into the sediment bulb.  Could this be an electrical issue related with the switch, or is it a fuel problem?  Thanks, Dave

	When it would quit, did you pull the choke and manage to keep it going a bit longer? If so, that would indicate a fuel problem such as something in the fuel tank restricting fuel flow. Usually if it's electrical, they won't restart right away. First thing I would do is take the fuel line off at the carb and verify you have a steady stream. If it quits and won't restart, you need to find out if it's fuel missing or spark missing. Now that I think about it, I had the same problem with my snow blower. In it's case, the kill switch was getting snow on it and when the heat would melt the snow, it would ground out the ignition system.

	We had a D17 do about the same thing. It was the condenser. Fought the silly thing for a couple of months. Switched it to electronic ign. haven't had a problem since...

	My wd 45 had a similar problem, like cwhit, it was a bad condenssor. When running the condenssor would get warm enough to short internally and ground the spark, as soon as it cooled (1 - 2 minutes) it would start and run fine for a little while again. It doesn't rule out a fuel issue though, since they both can act the same way.

	I tried manipulating the choke when it would cut out and that didn't help. So, it makes me think it is electrical. Yes, if I let it cool down, then it will start and run. Let it set a couple of hours and then went out and used it again for half an hour, so that would seem consistent to what you are suggesting about the condenssor. Have to get a new one and try that. 	Had a similar problem on my WD. Took the cheap route and replaced the condensor only. Tractor still spit & sputtered. After looking closely at the points, noticed they were badly pitted. Replaced them in addition to condensor and problem was solved. Guess the pitting was changing the (electrical) length of time the points were opened or closed and the engine did not like it. Worth checking into.........O_O

	Replace the points and condensor. They are not that expensive (probably cost less that a second trip to the parts store).

	I had a real similar problem with the CA once. I found out Dads renter had used the CA and he used a clorox bottle to add gas. The little round cardboard seal inside the cap was floating around in the bottom of my gas tank. It might run an hour or 5 minutes and die but would start right back up. Gave me fits for awhile till I found it.

	take a flash light and shine it down in the tank should see what it is, had same happen to me like what happen to CTucker, but it could be points and condensor would put in as a set also, hope ya get it fixed soon.

	Well, wanted to update you on what I did. I had a condensor, so went ahead and just replaced it. Next snow, used the tractor about half an hour and it started doing the same thing. Needed to get the snow pushed, so put the blade on the '17 (without heat houser - boy was cold) and finished the job. When it warmed up a little last week, with the help of Gatz, replaced the points and the coil also. Used it for a half hour after that without incident. Used it again this week for approx 45 minutes and it ran fine. Wait for the next snow when I need to use it for an extended period to see what happens, but hope this remedied the problem. Thanks for all of the suggestions/assistance. Dave
