Looking to purchase either an hd5 or hd6?  Doesn't appear that the size of each machine is too far from the other.  One much better than the other?

It depends what you are going to do with it. If you are collecting than you should buy one of each. If you are in need of a tractor to push, then the HD-6 has more under the hood so to speak. The HD-6 was built until 1974 in Power  Shift and Direct Drive. The HD6E after 14474 had power steering and brakes. The tractors are much easier to handle with that feature, but the systems are more problematic. I have a 1956 and 1961, both with the 6000 direct injection engine. They start and run like they should. Ours are just toys, however. But we do work them once a year and they are a very good tractor. 29,000 of the HD-5's were sold with 25,000 of the HD-6 tractors sold after that. They are still a good workhorse for  the do it yourself guy.
