This isn't Allis, but I bet someone on here can probably help me. On our JD 444A payloader, the transmission is giving us trouble. When it gets good and warmed up, the transmission pressure will suddenly go from running in the green, to nothing, and you will lose all forward or reverse function. Let it sit for an hour (or less if it is colder outside), and then it will work again. It is definitely a heat related problem, because on cold days it will work for a longer time before acting up. Also, if you aren't working it too hard, it'll go longer, sometimes all day if it is fairly cold out and just loading bales or something not too strenuous. JD dealer says the pump in the transmission is shot, and 10 grand will fix it. My only problem with that theory is that if the pump is bad, it shouldn't come back full strength, should it. If it were a pump drive issue, it would of quit and been done with for good. If the pump itself was wearing out, it should of slowly started running less and less pressure til nothing, and then not keep coming back either, right. Thanks in advance for any help. Darrel

Dont know the machines Darrel, but agree if pump was shot, pressures would deteriate progressively, not suddenly. Anyone with experience with those transmissions, in particular, the pressure relief valve systems they have, could help.

Thanks for all of the replies, fellas. Can go chasing through cyber space for a while on that. Dnoym N. S. Can., I'm not sure if the transmission is an allison or not, but it is 2 speeds forward, and one reverse. Darrel

Is that by chance one of those hydrostatic models, instead of the torque converter ones? I think a few years ago i had a 344 with the hydro that did the same thing. I ended up pulling the hydro and was able to get it going with actually very little money.
