Working on the brakes and having difficulty getting the lock pin out for the early band style brakes. Have tried prying out after soaking with PB Blaster and a few light taps to shake loose.  Any tricks or tips on getting the pin removed?  Don't think they have been worked on in quite awhile.  Thanks, Paul

On a WD (same thing as the 17 as far as the pins go) that we were taking apart, we used an air chisel flat bite.  Put the bit in the slot and hit the trigger.  Took a minute or two but that vibration/beating loosened it and brought it out of hiding.  Now the one thing we had going for us was that we had the rear end up side down as we were taking it apart but still should work...just a little harder to get to.  Den

Thanks, Dennis.  Just didn't want to get crazy and destroy the pins.  A few taps with an air chisel sounds like the way to go.

I just did the left side of my D17D. The air chisel idea sounds like a good one. I welded a 3/8 bolt to the head of the pin and with a deep well socket just pulled it right out. Coat the pin and holes with antiseize so if you ever have to pull them out in the future, you can.
