   does anyone know if the hd 6e is when they started putting 6000 engines and putting the hydrolics on the front by the raditior.

	The 6000 engine was fitted around 1960. It was first fitted to HD6 s/n 13322. The front mounted hydraulics probably started around the same time. As only HD6s I have seen with the mid mounted hyd valve were Buda engined ones; and early s/nos Merv

	Until AC started making there own dozer blades there was not a standard hydraulic system on crawler tractors.Even after this many ag crawlers where purchased with out hydraulics. The owner would add there own.On the west coast rear mounted Bege units were the most popular into the 70's.

	My research,books, and experience show that when they started manufacturing HD6s in 1955 they were available with front mounted hydraulics and hardnose. That's also when the blades be came an option from AC. In the first year and up to serial no.5100 in 1956 the front mounted hydraulic pump ran thru lines to a control valve and hydraulic tank that was mounted on the right side of the operators compartment (where you couldn't get thru). By 1956 they incorporated the valves and tank into the front bumper under the radiator. ( I use that tank visual to date early HD6s and HD11s if you have enough pictures to look at). More often than not it holds true unless some used the old hydraulic components to upgrade a tractor that had no hydraulics. As Ray says the Begee hydraulic units are popular with the farming community because they didn't like all the extra weight that comes with the construction/logging type tractors and those units were easy to ad later.
