I always thought the best of all worlds for the tractors I'm used to would be an Allis 180/185 engine, front-end, hydraulic system, and layout (with their high-up platform seating position), but have the 8-speed tranny and rear end from a Ford 5000/6600 - including the independent PTO. Though I'd keep the Allis draft control system over the Ford's, and wouldn't mind the PD as well. I love the Allis 6 cyl, seating position, layout, hydraulics and look of the 180. But those Ford trannys and rear-ends were uber-bulletproof and could be abused to heck without issue. I'm quite certain if any of our Allis's were abused like our Fords have been for logging and working in the gravel pit, we would have had jumping gear issues and rear end failures years ago. But our Fords keep taking the abuse without complaint - well over 10k hours. I'd far rather be sitting on an Allis however: They sure got layout and hydraulic system right when they designed the 180.
I'd probably also have 30" rears on there, as I always thought the 180's looked a little too squat on the back with the stock 28's.
