for Iris’s growing around the base of a dead(think so) hickory tree?
Previous owner planted them years ago, this is our 3rd spring owning this property, never flowered until this spring. Last fall I mowed them down, because of never flowering, now this spring there are some flowers. What’s a good fertilizer to ensure continued flowering?
I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science.

not knowing whats in the soil at this time... a "GOOD" fertilizer has a little bit of everything in it... 10- 10- 10 ... is common.
Like them all, but love the "B"s.

Haven’t done any soil testing, this lawn does have dark soil, as it has been a mowed lawn for 80+ years these Iris’s are right around the trunk base of this Hickory tree, probably 2-3 ft thick around the base. Hope these flower’s didn’t contribute to the early demise of this tree, as referred to in my other post topic.

If they are that thick, I would dig them up and separate the tubers. Iris need not be mowed down, the green stalk after they flower produces next years flowers. My Dad traded colors of iris with a lady in Franklin, KY and had hundreds of them. Sadly they are mostly gone now because people kept mowing them down. Dig them and share with your flower loving friends. Google them to see what might help in your area. HTH Tracy
