I’m going soon to look at a couple old sorghum presses.
I just can’t seem to get the old ways out of my system. |

?Could that be, because we grew up on the old ways? I still do at least some things like I have done for years.

Most of the time the old ways are the best, plus that is what we grew up with and that is what we are comfortable with.
16 Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein. |

Thad,
I like your idea. Hope you find a press and then you can show us how it works. Maybe we'll all be over to sample your molasses. Maybe some pancakes or corn bread would be good too. Speaking of corn bread, yesterday I made a pan using Bloody Butcher corn we grew last year. Looks kind of a blueish color. Good with some milk and maple syrup.

Had some young fellers restore an old sorghum press a few years ago, they set it up at the show grounds, planted and harvested the sorghum and made molasses. Haven't seen them since, think it turned out to be a whole lot more work than they planned. Now they just travel around displaying it, probably for sale too.

Ive thought about this a lot. Now im no religous zealot but I know where the butter on my bread comes from and I believe God puts it in peoples hearts to preserve old machines and processes because we will need them again. With everything going on in our country and world it looks increasing likely

I agree, the old ways are usually the best and we remember that. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. We keep doing it the old way cause it works,,,,,,,,,,and so do we. These younguns now-a-days can't imagine WORKING....for anything.
