— General Motors on Friday issued a new recall that expands to all Chevrolet Bolt EVs and the new EUV for fire risk and will provide customers with an eight-year warranty or 100,000 miles on new battery modules for the affected cars.
The automaker said it expects the recall to cost it an additional $1 billion and is seeking reimbursement for some of that cost from the battery supplier, LG Chem. GM said that, in rare cases, batteries supplied to GM for the Bolts "may have two manufacturing defects — a torn anode tab and folded separator — present in the same battery cell, which increases the risk of fire." The high voltage batteries used in the Bolts are made by LG Chem’s Ochang, South Korea, facility though GM discovered manufacturing defects in certain battery cells produced at LG manufacturing facilities beyond the Ochang, Korea, plant, GM said. |

yeesh one billion bux....... wonder if new car prices will go up $50 to make up for the loss ? wonder WHERE the 1,000s of 'defective' batteries will go ?? probably some EPA law to say they can't be recycled/repurposed into 'offgrid' power plants or windmill power storage......

Tesla Battery fires are not new either, been several company recalls even as such a low level of ownership to patch those cars for accident damages that can set them ablaze. Another concern is Rats, seems in a effort to eliminate Petrochem products(Plastics) in these Enviro Friendly junk mixers, they used Soy or other organic product plastics and rats or mice just dearly love feasting on wire insulation and other components.
