Mr. Les,,,ahem,,,,,,,and any other industrious and frugal persons here,,,,,,,,,Wink
I finally finished my "rig-up" usin the D14 for pullin the pump on the lot next door,,and the rig-up worked like a charm,,!!!Clap ,My Brother came over and we had the pump layin on the ground in 45 minutes,,wooo hooo. The well is 210' deep and pump was set at 147'. The time before bout 4 years ago, when we had to pull the pump was because the dang pipe had frozen above grade and the pump kept pressuring up the line till it swelled and ruptured the pipe bout 1 foot above the pump. The driller replaced the bad joint of pipe PLUS installed a Brand NEW pump without notifying us before doing so. He already had the "old" pump put up in his trk when I got there that afternoon,,!!!! I asked why he did so and he said,,,"The OLD pump was already 3 years old and fixin to go out"   WHAT,,??  WTF,,?? Anyway, I got the "old" (3 year old) pump out of his trk and put it in my garage for a back-up.
Fast forward to last month and I went next door and tried to start the "new" pump and the sob would not pump more than 20# and went downhill from there,,,WTF,,,??? I'm chit outa luck some more as the well driller had passed away last year, so I have looked and looked but cannot find the receipt he gave me so, I went to hardware store in Roswell where he bought BOTH pumps. The well driller had told us the pump had a 5 year warrantee,,,the store tells me ,,,,,3 years sheeeesh,,,!!!  OK,,enough cussin,,,,
The hardware store told me they would "test" both pumps so I took em up there. The "old" pump would not even start, motor musta of locked up while settin in my garage. The "newer" pump would run but would not put up any pressure at all,,!!!
I separated motors from pumps on both of them and both pumps are free but the motor of the older pump will not turn but I ain't got very rough with it just yet. ( I will tho) I'm just curious WHY the pump would of lost pressure. This well as a rule has never had problems with sand, and neither of the pumps show any sign of sand that might of washed out the impellar clearances. What I do see on both of the pumps is some white lookin hard water scale, so I been soakin em in Vinegar and at the first they bubbled like crazy but last day or so been no action. dumped both of them and added new vinegar but no more bubblin,,,???
 Any kind words of wisdom,,,,,,

Wear on the impellers is normally why pressure loss .
My pump lasted 38 years when it went out because a hole had rusted in pipe and pump was running constantly for about a week or so .
During that time I went through 3 control boxes - either capacitor or the start switch went bad and one pressure switch .
I had well freeze twice at the well seal - first time was a service call - second time I dumped a pail of hot water down well casing to unfreeze well seal - then stuffed rags into well casing to prevent cold air going down the casing to freeze the well seal .
New pump is now 12 years old and had to replace the control box last year as capacitor went bad - got one from well guy $110 for the thing - about a week ago I found one of my old ones setting on the shelf - so now have a spare .

Pumps don't go bad just from sitting. I'd be looking at the pump control or  the wire /power supply
I still gots my A/C but it's clear out in the barn now.
