OK, for the gurus... can a regular starter be used as a 'starter-generator'. I can't see why not,providing it's wired up right but... I gotta ask ! Jay

No. The issue is, yes, it can but a starter built to just be a starter is not designed for sustained running. it will 'cook' pretty quick

Generators can be but starters I would be questioning of doing it as they run on bushings not bearings - to test a generator you can motor it - on a starter they are made for high torque and intermittent draw as the field winding's will overheat quickly

arrgh, I re read my post and I said it wrong...sigh.. I MEANT to say I have a lot of GENERATORS, and wondered if I could use them and 'starter-generators' like on the B-112 I have( and other graden tractors). sigh, getting old I guess Jay

again, Jay in theory, yes, but a generator will not have as high of torque, and will not put up with high current draw.
