According to my 444 baler manual my ram knife is supposed to have a bevel on the bottom to avoid it catching on the stationary knife. As the picture hopefully shows the knife currently only has a single bevel from top to bottom. Can anyone send me a photo or sketch of what this extra bevel should look like so I can have it ground into the knife?

Michael, I don't have a picture of it. But the angle is to let the blades bypass and not shear one another. You will need to see where they bypass each other to determine the length of bevel. You don't want hay not cut and hanging together. It will be clear once you see the stationary and ram knife pass each other. The feeder house chute into bale chamber, that is best place to check. Tracy, I understand the need and function of the bevel, I just don't know what it should look like. In my mind the bevel could be created in at least two of the three dimensions/axis's and provide the required function.

Basically it is so blades won't hit edge to edge. It will act as a heel. The bevel needs to be more than any slide play could get in the ram . I don't have a book here, or close to my baler to look at it. HTH Tracy
