All right I want your take on this. I have a 39 RC that has 24s on the back and this tractor is original. All evidence I can find is that these tractors had 28.

My understanding was they had 24s, cheaper and with less power was all that was needed.

Take a look at Tom's info here from a price book. Down about 7 lines it shows 28" as an option over the standard rubber rear tire.

I've never seen a RC with 24" rears. My book say's 10-28 rear tires (old type number)

The 24 in rears are probably from an early WC. Same chassis as RC except rear axle ratio.
They would bolt right on.

Not sayin they might not have offered 24's, but I've never seen any. Nebraska Test was done on 10 x 28's.

I have an unstyled WC on Steel that I would happily put these wheels on. I guess I really don't care but something made me just look twice being no styled anything ever had 24s that I recall. AI States there are some early ones that may have had 24s. I guess if I could find some complete 28 assemblies I bolt them on. Anybody got some?

Phil that's what I thought too but it had to have been done a long damn time ago. This tractor's been in my life for 25 years. It looks like they've been on there it's whole life. Wondering maybe a dealer swap. Honestly I don't even know what made me think twice other than the rear tires are 14.9. Awful wide

It could well have been a dealer change over for the customer for a special application as the WC's of the same time had the 24 in. wheels

My original brochure dated 4-40 shows standard rears as 10-28, with 9.00-28 available as a substitution.

By late 1938 at the same time that WCs started wearing styled sheet metal, they also transitioned from pressed steel 24” wheels to cast center/detachable rim 28” wheels. When the RC debuted in 1939, WCs no longer used the older 24” wheels. I’m sure that all RCs left the factory with a similar but unique to the RC 28” version of the new style WC wheels. Of course RCs also came equipped with their own special 15” front tires and wheels, even though they shared a 5-bolt hub assembly that allows the 16” styled WC wheels to easily bolt on.

Mystery solved! I don't know why I didn't think of this sooner. Duh.. I bought this tractor from a friend of mine who owned it since boy I'm going to say just before 2000. I asked him we're those same wheels it came with? Nope! Apparently what was on there was pretty bad and he found those at a show and all he could find at the time. Then he rattled off that the RC had special 28 wheels and Hardware but most just get WC stuff now. I get it, hey I've been around that tractor for 20 plus years and just noticed this past week!
I'm not crazy correct police but that's going to bug me now. I have a 36 WC that these wheels would go on nicely. Also have a friend down the road with a late unstyled 38 with 28s on it. He's already got a message for some Saturday Trading Post talk.
If anybody's got some completes RC or WC from the cast centers to rubber let me know. This tractor has never been painted and for 87 years old that sure looks good. I'd like to find something that doesn't look obvious. Have a great day everyone!
