 Topic: radiator, tough decision

OK folks help me decide on this. First off money is deffinately an issue. My radiator is pretty banged up, pretty sure it is a lost cause. I have already made several attempts to solder up holes, leaks keep springing up, and i cant keep running straight water in it this winter. So i am taking the plunge and buying a new one. I have seen prices from 350-650$, saw one guy previously post a price of around 470 i think. Its been said the cheaper ones dont have as much metal in them, therefore making them cheaper quality. Is it worth saving the extra $100+?? Has anyone had any real problems with the cheaper ones?? longevity issues? Thanks.

I don't know what tractor you need a rad for, but there are lots of parts tractors out there being scrapped out daily. Might find a good used on??

What is the rad for? maybe someone has a good used one, definatly an important item, I bought a WD for $200 one time cause engine overheated

Kinda between a rock and a hard place ...
You have to decide what it'll cost if the D17 dies due to overheating issues when the rad fails and the engine siezes up. NOT a cheap repair.
I'd talk to a local rad shop about getting them to recore yours. They use your 'ends' and put their 'core' inbetween.that has to cost less than a real new one, and FAR better than a 'used abused' one.If time is a factor,rad shop should be same day service(talk nice !),getting a used one may take a week or two(shipping from ???). I know about saving pennies but rads are 'kinda' important! Also if you don't have another tractor to use.....downtime could easily cost more than a new rad .

I just had a WD radiator recored for $450. Suppose to be heavier duty than reproductions.

If you want some serious professional radiator work done, Garyintheup does a job on them second to none.

my top tank has been used and abused, dont plan on reusing it. I did see on steiner they sell a core for $350.

I just purchased a new radiator from some company called Northern. Ouch, that hurt a lot; but i did get it OKed by the wife first, had her full support!!

Last summer I had to replace the rad on dads WD45. Only cost me about $300. I got the new one from a place called performance radiator. A web search shows a shop in Cincinnati and Chicago. They were very reasonable and have a warranty.
