I struggle seeing the reason behind this whole deal as well which was why it was such a difficult find. The snap ring i cant see being broken on installation as the problem should have started instantly and we managed to get a few hours on it before it acted up unless maybe a little piece of the snap ring was still in the groove and hours later finally fell out. I can see it not grinding when coupling and un coupling cause i can slide it fast and with ease on the splines but also no pressure forcing the coupling.
As for the tractor i have a week of use on it now so im confident that was the issue.
