Just put a new engine in a 180, new rebuilt injector pump, along with injectors ; it runs great but when you first start it , it takes a little bit to get it started ,, it does have the old big starter on it - it has a new 1200 amp battery ; seems to turn over fast just wont start right off the bat ; smokes- but slow starting , I redone a 200 bout 7 years ago and it started on the first round even at 20 degrees ; would the smaller newer starter help you think ?

sounds like you mite be a degree or two off. i had a 180 do the same thing when i took the the inj. pump off to be rebuilt. can't remember but i think i had to advance it alittle. hope this helps. some one mite know better than me though.

If you use the manifold heater for 60 seconds it will start right up, correct???

My old 180 is far from rebuilt but pulls even and strong with little blowby, it is however a pig to start below 50 degrees needing ether most of the time, above 60 it cranks a little long but usually fires up loaded up. I chalk it up to a roosa master style pump, weak nozzle settings and just low compression.

Yes Dr . if you use the heater it helps a bunch; or use the water heater it helps , the timing is dead on , could advance it a degree i guess

Retard a degree or two for better starting on an AC engine....better yet...advance it and see how much worse it is and then retard it.

Make it start better and then see whay you think...a 180 is to be timed at 22 degrees.
