I have a 1936 WC #28047.
Want to ask a couple things.
1. What does a person do about monitoring the coolong system temp? (No place to install the gauge like on later models.)
2. The thermostate is no longer offered. What are other doing about this?
It looks like the P.O. didn't worry about either as it had been run with out the above items. I didn't want to change the water manifold or the radiator, but that may be the only option, if I want to have a thermostate and temp gauge.

When it boils over it's too not, when it doesn't it's fine. Sorry, couldn't resist! I've run too many without thermostats and those with them that didn't work. I have a '34 and had a '35 and never had a problem. You'd have to work them very hard in pretty hot weather to boil them over if you have plenty of fluid and the timing is right.

When I did my 36, I used the water manifold/t-stat housing for a WD. I have a t-stat housing for a D17 which has a pipe thread for a probe if you wanted to do that. The WD water manifold would probably look a bit more "correct" if thats the goal. AaronSEIA

I don't know what I should do, that is why I posted the questions. If the tractor will be OK the way it is I guess, I should leave it that way. The tractor will just be something for me to have fun with, I don't farm, just a retired soldier wanting something to do and this fit with my WD.

I don't know much about the early WCs. Were they equipped with shutters?
With all of the emphasis in the styled WC manual about keeping the engine temp up to 170 deg (190 Deg for distillate) to keep condensation to a minimum, I'm surprised there is no gauge on the early tractors for monitoring the temp..

Brian, no shutters, but had a canvus cover that slid up and down to control air flow (I don't have the canvus on mine)

Gary: Your WC will do just fine as is. If you want the thermostat and temp guage, just find the parts and bolt them on and keep the parts you removed. If you or anyone else wants to put it back original at a later time it will be easy to reverse the upgrade!

wd with a freeman model 90 trip loader, wd45, 38 unstylled wc, b 10 garden tractor and 2-14 ac trip plow. grandpa has a 56 wd45. wd. allis chalmers snap coupler blade and 3 bottom snap coupler plow

The 36's radiator neck is not drilled for gauge nor is the hood, and neck is off to the left side a bit not centered like the later WC's and WD's.
If it isn't going to hurt it I think I will leave it the way it is.
