Sounds like a one-way loader with a trip bucket???????????? Be nice to have good information.  I'd be thinking traction booster linkage underneath the belly is bent or disconnected causing the pump (Pre-series 4) to pump all the time.

Yep, need to know if it is a series IV or not.  I suspect it is a linkage issue.

I had my WD hydraulic lift go up and not want to come back down immediately upon start up and it turned out to be a broken spring stuck in a spool inside the pump. Similar pump to the D17 Series I, II and III. SeriesIV is different.

Lumaro talks about loader bucket cylinder...
...so I think he has separate control valve for the loader and running the D17's pump through it... and the pump is pumping all the time so... I think he has either control valve unloading valve issue or the pump linkage is disconnected... or the traction booster linkage is bent, but the lift/lower control in lower position would relief the traction booster too so back to the lift/lower not functioning... just my guess.
