A couple of years ago I converted my D15 to negative ground (12V) and installed a Pertronix ignition with Flamethrower coil and it ran great. Saturday it would only attempt to fire off when I first started cranking. Checked fuel flow - it is good. I get decent spark when I first start to crank, then no spark or  very intermittent spark (coil wire to ground). Connections are all good and the battery has a fresh charge. Has anyone had problems with the ignitor modules on these? I plan to head back to the farm later this week to do some more trouble shooting. Thanks in advance.

How sure are you that the battery is good? Clip a good quality volt meter to the + side of the coil and crank it. If it drops below about 9.6v while cranking there's not enough voltage to crank and operate the ignition system. A dead cell in the battery is notorious for this. Engine cranks but won't fire.

Thanks, Brian. I should have thought to check for voltage drop Saturday. I will check that and also put a load tester on the battery. Maybe it won't be quite as hot in the barn and I won't be in a rush.

Checked the voltage today and got 9.8+ when cranking, installed a battery with a fresh charge and got 10.5 volts when cranking. Guess I will be replacing the ignitor unit oe going back to points and condensor.

Turned out to be the ignition unit. Put points and condenser back in and it runs great. Thanks Steve in NJ for your help. I will be calling Pertronix when I get back home.
