Been a Winter project for me.  It was rough, in every way but complete factory toolboxes, battery box, gen.  But everything has been a fight.  All is ready, but the clutch shaft is stuck.  Had the trans full for weeks, had a pipe wrench and 3' of pipe on the pto and I had it moving or so I thought last night.  Hard to do two things at once.  But still, a no go.  Full throttle and off the pedal stalls the motor right now.   Anyone been there before?

Dan may be on to something, if it were me I would remove top of transmission and see whats wrong.  The way you are going at it will lead only to broken parts and for sure a new clutch.

Shifts through the gears fine.  With the trans in neutral, the input shaft will not move.

I've had the top off of the trans a bunch.  It does shift like normal.  Is there something I'm overlooking while in there?

Pilot bushing stuck in the flywheel,--OR throwout bearing rusted to the input shaft.
I assume the clutch plate is not stuck to the flywheel???---Had that happen on several of them. thanks; ac fleet

That would mean the tractor couldn't be stopped without killing the engine. Or you wouldn't be able to put the tractor in gear while the engine was running. Or a combination therein, depending.

If you can start it and use the clutch to get in gear it has to be in two gears or brakes stuck to drum. Leon

Pull top off transmission and look again. Could be a lot of different things in there. In two gears, bearing or bolt stuck between a set of gears, frozen bearing, or any thing else. With clutch released, if input shaft does not turn, don't force it. Find why.    MACK

Pulled top off trans and not in two gears.  The lower gear set that the input shafts 'idles on', in neutral, the front gear on the set is stuck to shaft.  It is rotating the shaft as observed at rear trans case.  Been soaking for a long time in various fluids.  Any ideas?  I put a pipe wrench on shaft where I can get a bite on it and another on pto with no luck.

The front top gear turns when the lower four gears turn. You have to lock the foot clutch ahead (released) for these to be able to turn. One rear wheel off the ground and you should be able to turn the top rear three gears.

I understand what you are saying, but the lower gears are stuck on shaft and rotating it in the case.  Any ideas how to free these from shaft?  This tractor sat outside for a long time.  Trans got water in it and cracked pto housing on bottom front.  Other gears, etc were stuck but have come free.  The lower will not give up.

since your bearings are probably junk anyway id try driving that lower shaft back and forth until it comes out.  bolt and tab is all that holds lower shaft in.  worst case scenerio, the case breaks, gears and shaft are junk.  lots of parts out there.

the bottom gears are all 1 piece and rotate on long roller bearings on that shaft.

Thank you all very much for your help.  I had hoped it would break free and this tractor would be usable on the cheap but not always the case.  I'll get it eventually.  A wise old man I worked with over the winter said the best there ever was is half auto trans, half acetone.
