The raddle chain needs to be shortened on my 69 gleaner G.
It has links that are hammered together.I can get it apart easy enough but how do I spread it ,take out the links , then hammer it back together and not damage the chain?
Anyone done this before?

Too many years past since I worked on the A2 to remember specifics but like any flat chain you have to line the links at the correct angle and pound it back together.Gotta have something solid to back up the chain when pounding together.I'm sure this has to be done at the front access cover.

What post is that? I'd like to know too, for reference.
Are you talking about the old style steel detachable link chain? Or a roller chain?

I open the link with a long slender punch, close it with a pair of vice gripes.
Years ago when I worked on them, all time I made a tool kinda like a C clamp with a long tapered screw to open link.     MACK
