Allis C snap ring pto

   I’m needing the snap on input shaft to rear pto drive. I found the same snap ring behind the bearing on input shaft as the shaft enters transmission from drive shaft broken creating excessive end play. I used the rear snap ring to assemble transmission but is it ok to use an external snap ring that holds the sliding gear for pto engagement?  I can’t source that style ring anywhere.
