i bought an Allis Chalmers 7580 last year and when using it to cultivate , it stopped moving. The PTO , hydraulics and steering all work but it won't move in either forward or in reverse. Any ideas as to why? thanks

Seems like it was a shaft on the bottom of the transmission snapped. Cab needed to be tilted way back to do it.

Check the transmission/dropbox coupler. Remove the plate underneath the battery box and take a look. Good Luck, Mike

If the splines are gone in the power director hub like Mack says,then you should be able to put it into gear without any gear grinding. This is with the engine running and the clutch pedal up.

Then, I would think that if you put it 5th gear, release the clutch, throttle up a bit and step on the hi button, you should "hear" things whirring under the cab floor. This is with the range trans in low range. That to me would mean the coupler after the transmission, not the clutch housing splines.

No chance the range lever popped out of gear? Does it act the same way in both ranges? Had a cable break on the range selector on an older steiger the other day and acted a lot like you are describing

Along Shameless’s lines I had to run my 7580 in high for a few years. Big heavy zip tie saved the day.
