My tractor ( 149 gas ) has always gained a little RPMs if I hold the throttle control down (WOT) while driving . Today I took the carb linkage off above the water pump and there's about 1/8" gap between the gov arm and the stop when the throttle's wide open . Does my stop need adjusting or something amiss in the governor ? Sometimes a little extra speed is a good thing . Sadly my tractor doesn't have a tach . Not sure what max RPM should be ? Thanks !

If you have no surging/hunting problems, LEAVE IT ALONE !!  More speed comes from more spring pressure on the other side of the engine, not changing governor link rod length.

BUT.... if you pull the Carburetor rod WIDE OPEN, it should align with the governor cross arm.. If the pins dont line up, your not getting full use of your Carburetor, even tho the governor is working properly... You can grab the cross rod on the left side of engine and bend it forward or back a little until the carb rod lines up... Should not effect your governor.... just more CARB.

I put my throttle lever at wot and with the carb rod at full throttle it's a little short. If I can find my dwell meter I can see what the rpms are. Got to get everything back together first. Thanks guys!

Changing the length of that link rod affects the sensitivity of the governor. The throttle butterfly being 1/8" or less short has negligible to zero change in HP. Been there and dun that on a dyno. That last little bit doesn't mean squat for HP output.
