and how does it yeild next to RR corn
and what is the output cost vs other

We do all conventional corn because we sell to distilleries...Use corvus and love it...We work the ground still and spray right after it's planted.clean fields every time

We grow Viking and titan pro yield is very good if not better than the high dollar dekalb we plant most years..

There are dozens of sprays for corn, depending on timing and weeds to control. With clean fields, good seed, and good fertility, you get good yield. Sharpen your pencil and see what you get.

And spray, treatments, insecticide for non GMO corn is expensive to buy. That's why I said sharpen your pencil.

Tbone....Yield drag on RR corn is about 5% compared to non GMO...If you do RR corn and beans then you have to add something different to your bean chemical to get volunteer corn not to mention the immunity to weeds that develops after constant round up...My pencil is sharp... Premium on corn for it being non GMO is well worth the added chemical cost especially when the seed is cheaper to start with.

I plant Legend conventional corn and soybeans, I don't spray but I cultivate both 3 times per year. I have very few weeds but I do proper tillage and cultivation (timing is everything to prevent weeds). I'm not an organic farm but I raise natural feed for my chickens. Probably costs about the same to grow as it would to spray but I don't mind the extra time on the tractor.

With corn prices as cheap as they are I don't know of anyone using insecticide or fungiside around d here

K. But this post isn't the same as your last post, ie, there's a lot more to it than "non GMO seed is cheaper", and that's my point as well. Not sure about your 5% yield drag comment, but OK. In fact, for GMO traits and yields, the BT trait has a far greater impact than chemical tolerance, and if you plant GMO corn, it keeps your options open.

ACD21man,
I am considering going back to conventional corn next year on the 90 or so acres I plant. Over the past couple of years I have phased out the BT trait and am planting just the RR trait. I have my dealer put down RoundUp, Lumax, and extra atrazine at planting time in no till and rarely have to spray post emerge. Lumax is not cheap but there are many other options for corn sprays, including post emerge for both grass and broadleaves (at least here in Michigan)that are cost effective.
I have never heard of yield drag with RR corn personally.
As mentioned above you'll just have to pencil it out. With good weed control expect the same yield with RR vs. conventional. The seed I buy would be $30 less per unit than the RR, I would still be using the same herbicides, just no RR post emerge.

Neighbor plants Triple Stax but sprays conventionally so he has options. Besides having insect control is important. Sometimes folks forget you get paid per bushel not per acre.

Exactly Mr. Victory. I've planted triple stax and sprayed conventional as well as I have a landlord with a "no roundup" rule. And it outperformed the conventional on the same land by tonnage (silage) and with a really sharp pencil, it was too close to call a winner.
