I've been plowing in rocky soil, when I hit larger rocks the snap coupler pops open is this normal or is there something I should be doing differently?

Safety question: Do you have a chain around the snap coupler to keep the implement off the seat?
Can't answer your question however. spring maybe?

what do you mean "pops open" the plow comes unhooked? Do you mean the hand clutch trips and the tractor stops?
The plow should never come unhooked unless part of the snap coupler system is wore out.
Some tractors had a throwout that would trip the hand clutch and stop the tractor if you hit a rock.

One of the two lift arm latches would snap open unhooking one side of the plow lift arm depending on the location of the rock. Never does the plow become unhooked from the bottom bell. No the tractor does not have the mechanism to release the hand clutch. After awhile I knew the sound of the coupler snapping open and I can stop the tractor and reset the arm latch without having to leave the seat,the plow never came up to be a safety issue.

No,there is no mechanism to the power director

So basically what's happening is that the plow hits a rock which causes the plow to jump up. When the plow jumps up the lift link on the plow pushes the lift latch open and the lift link on the plow pops out and is disconnected.
If I understand this correctly, the lift latch is working as designed. The only thing that mit help is replacing the springs as they may have lost some tension.

As usual Dennis is correct. Springs are available from AGCO and Matt Scott sells rebuild kits as well. Jim

I agree with Dennis. Maybe annoying, but sounds normal. The idea is that if the snap coupler comes unhook, the releases will pop open, keeping the tongue from digging into the ground and flipping the plow up on the operator.

Thanks everyone for your support. I thought that may have been the answer, but I didn't want to keep using it that way if it could be corrected. So I 'll keep removing rocks, replace the springs and keep an eye on the latches as I go . Thanks again. Eric
