TA46 On An 8070

A good friend just called with an 8070/TA46 Westendorf question. He wants to know if anyone has a set of side hoods that have had some cracks in them. He tells the side hoods are a little to wide and would like to cut them off above where they flair out. Just above the stripes. 

I told him NOT TO CUT them until we talk again. He has prefect ones on it now. What have any of you 8000 series/loader guys done with the side hoods on your tractors?

We have a set of beat up ones.  or he could just leave them off when loader is on.

My TA 46 came off an 8070 and fits my 8010 just fine. I wonder how his mounts are attached to his tractor?

We have a TA 46A that came off of a 8070 fwa. We put it on a 7040 and had to get 7000 series brackets so we didn't have to cut the side panels. We could have made the 8000 series brackets work if we cut the side panels, but I just didn't want to do that cause the 7040 is still all original paint and metal, and pretty nice for a 40. He may need to get the brackets for the tractor, or do some cutting and welding.

KY poorbay, would you still have the brackets from the 8070? I haven't seen there setup yet. I have a TA46B on my 7045. I might have to take it over to the 8070 and park them together and compare.

I traded them to tbran on here for a new set. He owns B&G Equipment in Paris, TN. I would think he still has them, it's only been 5 or 6 weeks I think. They are in excellent shape.

Them ain't bad at all. Very easily fixed because of them being fiber glass.

Well maybe, if you know fiberglass.  I can weld steel but don't know a thing about fixing fiberglass.

What do you do for a bell housing and torque limiter setup? I think there is someone that sells a conversion kit or did you make your own?

There is an adapter plate. The flywheel is a new part from Cummins but machined to fit torque limiter. I can get you contact info.

Thanks for the info Jordan. I am not looking at doing one immediately but just for future knowledge that there is a simple and proven way to do it. I would think it would make a really nice unit with that engine.

I have a 8070 MFWD and have a Ezee-on loader on it that allows the side panels to fit normally. As far as fixing those fiberglass panels, it is not very difficult to do yourself and they will look like new when you are done, just a little thicker! Bonus. Or take them to a body shop. Naw, too expensive. Get some different weights of fg cloth and then some resin and hardener. Two part catalyst type resin. Do not mix up more than you can use in 10 minutes or so, and just start laying on layers of reinforcing cloth on the back side. Let them set and then do another layer until the panel is good and strong. If sections are missing of the original hood just remake them using cloth and resin. Make sure you soak the cloth all the way through with resin. For the front side, fill little crack lines with resin to overfull and just sand off the excess when done. You can use a little skim of bondo to finish any rough spots before painting. There are lots of good videos on youtube. It is amazing how a few hours and a little bit of materials can rebuild a pretty ugly old panel, and make it look like new.
