I just bought a d17 diesel sn# 170 2754. It has square fenders and the hydraulic pump is externally mounted on right side of tractor. The starter is a 1113082. I need to find a starter and a lot of other parts of someone could help me figure out what year this thing is. Thanks

Serial number is on the left side of the bellhousing sitting in the seat. Someone will be able to tell you the year.

Sure enough, I don't know how I missed it. Serial number matches a 1968 one seventy.

What you have is parts of 2 or more tractors. From your photos, the front radiator shroud is from a series I or II tractor. Most likely the engine is too. And the torque tube is from a 170 and most likely the rear end is 170 also.

So I gs I'm gonna have a nightmare to buy parts for!! I need a starter right now, but not sure if the 1113182 Delco starter is correct for that torque tube. The housing broke on this one.

If water pump is on the head it's a series I or II. If water pump is on the block its a series III or IV motor. Those are the main differences. Most all other engine parts are common.

I can't see your pics, but it sounds like Macon rounds has it right. The serial number, square fenders and externally mounted hyd pump are one seventy. 170 tractors started in 1971 at ser number 7500. Could be someone swapped a one seventy tourque tube and fenders on to a d17. Is it 3 pt or snap coupler?

Oh yea, it was my dad's. I have ran the tractor a lot of years. The injectors and pump were wore out so I decided to do some restoration until all this came up.

Front half is a D17, torque tube back is a 170 as people have already mentioned. Just get your starter rebuilt by a local shop, it eliminates the PIA factor. Hope your engine doesn't need rebuilding - THAT would be a real PIA! Good luck with it.

Nobody has the head for the starter which is broken. Found one hear in Iowa and the guy wanted 325.00 just for the head. Yes the motor needs rebuilt too, not much compression anymore
