Anyone see the advertising for the Mecum Auction with the IB Prototype? Dont know if it someone on here. Just my opinion but seems they're advertising it a little inaccurate. I think "prototype clone" would be a more accurate description. Don't get me wrong it is a fantastic restoration. Theres just alot of questionable things on it to label it just prototype.

Appears to be similar to the picture of a 'prototype'

It says "....made to match the original prototype tractor..."
So it's a re-pro.

That tractor looks a lot longer than the original pictured....you would think they would at least use an IB torque tube and steering shaft...

I like how it says extensive restoration to match the original prototype and talks about the wide bench seat in the ad but in the original photo you can see the real prototype had a single seat and had the B wheel centers rather than the C style the listed tractor has. Not a very "extensive match" in my book; just looks like another lowered B (which I do like and want to do one day) but I don't think it constitutes selling it as a prototype.

I thought it looked funny. I don't remember what the real prototype looked like, but this just looks like a slammed B to me, not an IB.

Perhaps, some of you will remember several of those lowered B and C tractors were built privately here in Indiana for lawn moving and grading...the neat ones had CA trans ...a lot of them still exist...remember there was one on Fort Wayne craigslist last year ...the Mecum tractor does have nice paint ...Mark

Lots of difference from the Bw picture and the " prototype" the axles are from a late model B. Pretty but that's all.

For information there is a picture of a Prototype IB in MR SWINFORD'S book "Allis Chalmers Construction Machinery & Industrial Equipment" page 248.
There is a description of farm tractors used for industrial purposes and the history of the IB.
My favorite did all types of jobs.  Remember when it was made it was the first of the small tractors.  Just what was wanted at the time - state of the art.  Pop sold them for everything by the carloads.
Good Luck!

Does someone need to sell the owner a pintle hook?
