I know none of Norm Swinford's mention a Self Propelled Chopper, but it's got me wondering if Allis Chalmers ever experimented or considered building a Self Propelled Forage Harvester? I know Deere had the 5400 SPFH in the 70's, along with New Holland. If they had built one, I imagine it would have used the Gleaner L2 cab, Hydro -Traction drive, the same Diesel engine options as the L2 Gleaner, plus RWA. I am surprised AC never continued development of the Self-propelled Sprayer. I know they had an AC SP Sprayer... Was that even built by AC or a rebadged Sprayer from someone else? Interesting, I did not know that the New Idea Uni-system's used Allis Chalmers engines in them at one point. Did know that NASA's Shuttle/ Saturn 5 Rocket Crawler transporter used 4 Allis Diesel engines. Not sure if the Crawler still is run by the AC Diesel engines or if they were upgraded. |
