Were the exhaust and intake manifolds on the WD45 Gas painted when they came from the factory? If so, what were the colors or were they both the same?

The exhaust manifold doesn't matter because even high temp paint quickly burns off. I think they painted the manifold orange when they painted the tractor.
Watch this. It has a video of them painting the tractor. You can see there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYH3q9nJ-fc Edited by Allis dave - 12 Dec 2016 at 11:53am |

I used high temp rustoleum (black) and it is holding up pretty good.
From the factory they probably had the same paint as the rest of the tractor. Regards, Chris Edited by Sugarmaker - 12 Dec 2016 at 4:24pm |

I don't have much confidence in any paint holding up on the exhaust manifold. When I was a kid, riding on the fender with Dad, he would run the tractor hard for a few minutes, then get off and light a cigarette off the exhaust manifold.
I also remember watching the flame out of the exhaust after dark. I doubt any paint is going to hold up to that kind of heat. |

Do a search for Bill Hirsch cast iron grey manifold paint , I have used it for years , good stuff , I buy the pint and brush 2-3 good coats on sand blasted manifold, looks good , holds up well.

I have used high temperature black paint on a couple of manifolds and they have held up very well so far. If it were me, I would sandblast the whole thing to remove loose scale (and clean the inside out real well afterwards), paint the exhaust section in high temp black. Then mask off the black and paint the intake section orange.

Want original look paint it orange with the tractor when the paint burns off the exhaust manifold it will look just as did when it came to farm from dealer and was put to work in field.
Putting anything else on manifold would not be how it was from new if u are wanting it to be 100% restored back to how it was . Just my 3 cents |
