A one owner 1963 D15 Series 2 DIESEL. Stored inside every night. Factory 3 point with top link. Engine rebuilt 10 years ago. Injectors and pump done 4 years ago. Runs great with no smoke. Original Nelson muffler. Downsides: lots of leaks, some dents, wiring is a mess and a lot of "farmer fixes" as I like to call them - some are shown below. Things will improve over time though.
Owner #2 is getting acquainted with it, but likes it!
Question for discussion: That toolbox on the left fender. I swear it is original, but it is shorter than others, with no hole in either end. Has anyone come across one like this?

thats almost as bad as my doner engine for my d17 when i fixed all the leakes on the pump and got all the cylinders doing all their work the blow by would push oil out the filler by the tune of going from full to add in about 2 minuts at idle,. i am the third owner but i should have inherited it any ways

Maybe different than gas but my tool box is on the right fender, don't have that big battery box on a gas.

Great find I have 1963 D15 Series 2 Diesel also, only mine is a Tractor Loader Backhoe with Henry TS 500 Loader and Henry Mark IV Backhoe. Handiest thing I ever bought. Good Luck with yours! Bob

Most tractors did have the toolbox on the right side except when that space was needed for other things: like a D15 diesel battery box, or hydraulic console on a D17 series 4.

Didn't waste any time tearing into it. Tire chains - off. Homemade battery box - gone. Additional homemade supports for the 3 point hitch - gone. Homemade generator support - gone (served no purpose). Big tool box on left frame rail - gone (man, that thing was heavy!). Creative seat cushions - gone. Homemade liquid containment devices also gone. Additional homemade light wiring - gone (and very sketchy).
Starter is out and getting rebuilt. Battery cables were undersized and had no insulation in some places. No wonder it would not start worth a damn! Don't get the wrong idea, it's not getting restored. Just how I like all my tractors: safe, reliable and presentable.

Does anyone have a picture of how the fuel is supposed to get from the sediment bowl to the primary filter? Series 1 is different. Oddly enough the AGCO parts website only shows series 1 and it seems the only manuals I can find are for Series 1s.
I want to get rid of that electric pump. I figure there should at least be a hand primer somewhere, but I don't know where it would go.
Appreciate any insight!

Cleaned up pretty nice. Lots of time with the wire brush and a whole case of brake cleaner. New seat cushions and hydraulic return line. Brand new starter and battery cables. Fires right up at 48 degrees without the manifold heater. Took it for a half hour drive down the road and ran beautifully. Steering is a little loose - universal joints are worn.
Will bring it into the shop this winter for some more in depth repairs: front axle pivot pin, fix up the steering, new wiring harness and lights, remove that electric fuel pump, tackle a few leaks and put in some new gauges.
Question: Is there any difference between D17 diesel and D15 diesel tachometers? There's not much left of mine. Can't find new ones for 15 diesels.

No difference from the gas model. Diesel engine is the only difference with the tractor. I do not have the drawbar on at the moment.

Looks good. And as far as you can tell, the main casting that bolts to the frame is intact and undamaged?
That casting for the D15 I'm stewarding had been busted and welded twice before I came alone and it was found with casting busted a third time. And at some point long the way, the bolt hole in the frame that runs into the oil reservoir had also been damaged and was found with Helicoil insert. Not trusting it do more than look nice, we converted tractor to a hybrid of snap coupler and factory 3 point, using a Cross Manufacturing conversion kit. Or more accurately, pieces of one. No more problems.
But am curious to know if the problems found with this tractor is unique to it (and abuse it may have been given) or if the design in general tended towards failure.

It all depends on how the tractor was used and/or abused. None of mine have any damage in the rear housing. I have read that the mounting bolts need to be kept tight or problems could eventually arise. However, in my opinion, the factory 3 point hitch is a little flimsy for a 46 horsepower tractor. It may not have been the best design. For heavy 3 point hitch work, I always go to one of my Series 4 D17s. Those factory 3 points are nearly indestructible. Far superior to what was on the D15.

A diesel D-15 II was only 36 HP, so not quite as rough on a 3-point hitch as the G-160 at 46 HP could be.
