Our hard wired Kidde is quietly chirping sporadically. Took me a while to figure it out. I plan to replace it as it's 8 years old but this model has bad reviews. Should add I pulled the battery and the wire Any thoughts? Thanks

Chirping normally means the battery is dead.... Yours must be a battery BACKUP for lost power .

Guess it's bad as it chirped with no battery or power. Just wondering about a good replacement. Thanks

Well thats odd... I have had several of the battery operated in the last 30 years... When the battery is less than 50%, they will CHIRP a few times, every 5 or 10 minutes... Always stops when you take the battery OUT or install NEW.
No preference on brands.. I just buy one at Wal Mart .... they all seem to work about the same as far as i can tell.. I have checked them with a lit match, blow out and hold near the sensor.

We have the KIDDE units in our house, Hard Wired so any one goes off they ALL go off. Battery Backup for power failures requires replacement Spring and Fall, was in data sheets when I installed them.

So it can chirp, with no power AND no battery??? Perpetual motion.....Timely topic. Was pretty warm yesterday, not terrible, not humid, and supposed to get down to 60 over night. So no AC on, windows open. Got nice and asleep, . . . .about 11:00 dang skunk lit one off must've been JUST outside the window!!! DAMN did that stink! Shut the windows all up, little scared to turn AC on also, since that stuff is all on that side of the house. Got nice and stuffy in there real quick, but finally got to sleep....and.....chirp......chirp....chirp right over my freakin' head. Seriously? Pulled the battery out (which stopped the chirping, and these are wired and battery backup style). But sleep was forever elusive. Went out to the living room and laid really propped up, because heartburn was making a presence as well. A little cooler out there....but....ol' Tbone running on not much sleep today. Oof.

Dang Craig, that ain't good . We don't seem to have many skunks around here. Yeah our detector gave a couple weak chirps with no battery or power. Probably replace it today. Thanks

If your house is wired for detectors replace them with a good brand wired units. They may also make battery units that will set the others off that are set to the same code. Having all of them activate together gives you an extra measure of security.
