 Topic: M2 spewing dust out throat .

Have an M2 that spews dust out the throat . Bad enough that it is impossible to see head at night to run . This M2 is the 1st M we have ever ran . Have ran an L2 for years and never had this problem . Cylinder bars are wide spaced and in good condition . Why is this machine not sucking in the dust ?

Bars may look OK, but are prolly worn, either turn them or put in new ones, also, if the concave is the original, ya might change it to, it will really make a big difference to, new bars an concaves,. You'll think ya got a new machine

There are rubber seal strips above and both sides at throat pivot area. Are they in good shape? MACK

I got 160a on Trimpe bars in my F2.Don't think they are wore out but she was belching plenty of bean dust this year.I don't remember that the last 2. Think it's the beans/season we had.

Probably just crop conditions or the variety of beans, some varieties seem to be dustier than others. I think some company makes aftermarket feeder house blowers to get rid of the dust. I have seen a few of them on older Deere Maximizers. Not sure if they make them for older Gleaners or not.

Mack the seal does have a varmit hole in one corner , but I guess I never thought a small hole like that would make that big of a difference . It does it the absolute worst when you shut the machine down and start it back up . In all fairness the lighting is original , so that maybe some of the problem . The bars are doing a very good job and the combine is feeding just fine . One of the things I always appreciated about the Gleaner conventional was the negative air pressure at the throat . How does the Sunnybrook rotor effect the machines ability to suck the dust in ?

I've had an M2,L2, and still have an L3. They have all had this condition. Sometimes it was fine and other times, if conditions are different, it is impossible to see at night. Tried several things(including all of the above) and some have helped, but can still have the dusty conditions. Good Luck on solving. If you find a helpful solution, let us know. rrhead(SD)

I know where there's a JD 7720 (won't say where) It the dust collector in the feeder and you sure can see it blowing all the dust off out of the way. Never have trouble seeing with it. I know a couple other guys that have similar era JD combines without collector and they complain about seeing at night. I didn't think a Gleaner would have that problem.

Just a thought there is rubber dust seals on the side of the throat and top I think? if there bad the fan will pull air there instead of the front letting all the dust come out the front hope that helps
