im restoring a d17 and im confused on what size tires to put on it. the old tires are 5.50-15-sl in the front and 16-9-28 in the rear. i dont know if i should get a new set of the same sizes or go with what tractordata.com says it should have.

Tractor data is not always correct. my 17 has 16.9x28s on her, and that's on a 15" rim, looks really good. The 14.9x28s will start to make it look like the WD45 rear depending on your rim width, which will look out of place. IMHO not fact.

16.9 x 28 and 6.00 -16 look good on the early series....18.4 x 28 and 9.5L-15 look mean on the Series IV.
![]() I put a set of 14.9's on my early series and it looks a little anemic...

Even the 170 operators manual lists 14.9 x 28 as an option on them.....they really look small on a 170!

tires are a little low in that pic. it had been sitting in the yard for about 7 years. finally decided to push it in the garage and work on it. found out my dad had thrown a rod in it and it was all locked up. i got all the engine work done on it now and its all put back together and running. having problems with it cutting out if i give it to much throttle to fast.

According to the owner's manual for my early D17, the 14.9-28's are the "standard" size with the 16.9-28 being optional. I'll bet most D17's had the optional 16.9's put on them. That's how mine is.

Our '67 Series IV had 18.4x28's on it from the factory. It was purchased new in spring of '68 and had been @ the MN state fair the previous year. I always liked the way it looked with those big tires on it and it did float quite well also.

Bought a D17 diesel with factory 14.9's on it. It was a lot happier with the 16.9's I found on a scrapped D17 gas I found. The 14.9's went on my 45 diesel.
