    Posted: 29 Sep 2015 at 1:38pm
I have a new rim for my CA, but I need to loosen the eccentrics. The rim that I just acquired has one of the 1/2" squares twisted off already. I don't want to break any more. I have not gotten rough with anything yet. I heard that someone had a "tool" they had made for loosening these. Can I get some good advice beyond PB Blaster, heat, bigger hammer. Thanks

I took an extention, flipped backwards with a socket on the impact and worked them back and forth, all four came right off...

I have taken them off the center dish, dropped them in a muratic acid (available at Wallyworld and swimming pool places) solution for 3-4 days, and this helps a lot to loosen them up! Neutralize with baking soda, prime and paint or at least oil them, because they will develop a film of rust overnite!

Best way is still to remove them, one at a time, and get them moving, by soaking in penetrating oil, placing in vise, and tapping forward and back, on the cam.  Once you see it move a little forward or back, then try turning it with a wrench.  Takes about an hour per clamp, good work, on a winter day...

yes, if you go to all the trouble to take them apart, run them against a wire wheel, and never seize them, before assembly....

Remove the bolts on all of the clamps and beat the center out of the rim. Not as hard as it sounds. If you remove the clips and hammer on the pins, after lots of PB Blaster, they will come loose. I have done many sets this way. LOL Bob

Hey, thanks to all. I appreciate the responses. This tractor belonged to my Dad, who purchased just before I was born. This  1 rim was rotted out and I want to replace it without tearing something up. Again, THANKS to all.

I watched the you tube video with great interest, as it showed how to get the wheel back on--but at the moment, our AC doesn't have power (carb is being rebuilt)--HOW to get this durn wheel on without power???

Need help before my husband drops the tractor on his head....would be really helpful.

Once I had the rim re-assembled I put the tire and rim back on the tractor. While it was still up on the blocks, I was able to spin the wheel and tire to the position I wanted before I thightened the eccentrics and fully tightened the bolts in the center dish. It was pretty easy actually.

That's why I does them one at a time.  If the tire is loaded, getting from the horizontal to vertical is a real pain.  Do 'em one at a time, and you can take the bottom one out, and re-assemble, then roll the wheel , take the next one out, etc, etc, till you're done...

Well, he had to take it all apart (left the hub on the tractor) to put on a new tube--there was some repair to do on the rim--welding etc. He even went out and got longer bolts in hopes of getting it together, but that doesn't seem to be working.

I seem to be missing something. I don't understand why you need tractor power to mount the wheel. Can you please explain in more detail?
Thanks & God Bless

According to the video, you have to run the tractor to turn the wheel so that the extension bits that screw on the wheel hub--to hold the tire on. Right now, the rim is in two pieces--the part that goes on the tractor (still on the tractor) and the part that holds the tire on--

The whole assy is VERTICAL--and hubby doesn't want to take off the hub to make it horizontal, and he's having trouble getting the ext pieces on in place so he can get the bolts to go through--

He fiddled with it for hours yesterday. Help!

Put the tractor in neutral and try to turn the wheel by hand to line up. If that don't work then take the wheel off. Is there a reason why he wants to leave the wheel on?
Thanks & God Bless

He needs to take the center section off the tractor and lay it on the floor like in the video but it may take a few more hours of frustration to make it clear to him. Pinch

Well, he's going to give up until spring. Maybe at that time, I can convince him that it will be WAY EASIER to work on when it's horizontal, and there is no tipping of the tire and having to work around the weight of the tire on the rim--Sadly. he spent so much time on it unsuccessfully, that he gave up and rolled it back into the garage to wait until spring. Just too much frustration at the moment.

Thanks all for the tips, and I'll save this convo and video to view again next yearl
