What would have been the most likely side mount sickle mower to have been original on a '51 CA? Anyone have a picture of one on your tractor?

Jim, That would be the Allis Chalmers #5 mower. It was basically a B-C mower adapted to the longer frame of the CA. You would buy the basic mower and cutter bar then add the mounting and lift kits for whatever tractor it was to be mounted on.
An interesting feature of the #5 mower was the two pulley drive. They used smaller belts reinforced with steel cable to transfer the power from the PTO shaft to the mower. If you can get a copy of MR. SWINFORD's "Allis Chalmers Farm Equipment" book on page 274 and 275 there is a picture of the #5 on a CA with a small article about it. Hope that is some help. Good Luck! The #5 mower is one that you only want to install once. It takes 2 me and a small boy to get it on. I think that once it's on you would want to leave it there. It looks very heavy. LOL Bob
