    Posted: 20 Oct 2015 at 7:29am
My 8010 has started this surging of speed. It fires right up, I bring it to 1500 and it wants to run up to 2000 rpm. Then back to 1500. It'll stay there for awhile then back to 2000ish. Also while pulling up hill it doesn't keep speed, I have to throttle it up manually or it slows almost to a lugging stop.
I'm going to change the fuel filters, but they are new. Less than 20 hours and I drained the first filter, got very little water.
Any ideas?

Thanks in advance
Joe

PS after a while it will run fine at idle.

Little less than 3000 hrs. Says the meter.
Is that valve in the injection pump?

2685 hours.

I think you've had something other than clean diesel fuel go thru the injection pump, scratching the metering valve. That's what I think.

This is an early tractor with the Stanadyne pump right? The problems you describe sound like AMBAC M100 problems.

Mack my 8010 has the AMBAC M100 pump that does the same thing as the OP does. What are the problems with the AMBAC M100 pump.

The Ambac has a slip clutch that will slip, and allow rpms to go above intended speed if load suddenly goes away, or you rapidly go wide open with light to no loads. The op having a Roosa DM likely has the metering valve sticking just like Dr said.

Fuel supply problem was the cause. Cutting hay as I type.
