Coolant is boiling over and being lost thru the overflow tube in neck of radiator. Tried replacing the cap did not change. Do you guys think it the thermostat?

Ok silly me just did some searching and learned I'm not supposed to fill the radiator to the top leave it one to 2 inches below the cap! I'll let somemore overflow and see what happens. Think that's it though...

It shouldn't be boiling over, regardless. It may expand and go out the overflow, but it shouldn't boil. It might be the thermostat. It might be a head gasket. What is the temperature gauge doing?

Doug I stand corrected was not boiling over wrong term I used. The radiator was down an inch or 2 since I bought it. Never overheated never leaked, thought I was doing the right thing by filling to the top,I'm used to newer cars with resivours

If it still expands out, I'd take a good look for a clogged radiator, much more common problem, than thermostat problems...

I would just say make sure the temp gauge works temp and oil are critical to have or you can easily trash the motor as long as the temp gauge works and reads normal then the issue is just learning how the old system works. Been there done that with my d17 felt stupid when I realized I kept over filling it. If you open the cap and can seen the fins on the inside of the radiator then you have a leak to worry about.
