    Posted: 07 Nov 2015 at 8:12pm
I was asking about these on the forum the other day and I bought this one. A friend of mine and I bought it on halves thinking he could use the 470 loader on his D-21and I would keep the tractor but he decided not to try and put the loader on his D21. So it leaves me with a couple of options.  I still havent decided if I am going to keep the entire unit or sell it. It runs like a top and is the Power shift model. Problem is that when running it has a hydro leak. It looks like it is squirting it up underneath the cab somewhere as it gets on the bottom of the cab and on the batteries, can anyone tell me where they think it might be leaking. It has a couple of stadium lights up front and a full  row to the rear. 3pt and pto. If anybody has any suggestions on the hydro leak or would be interested in taking off my hands for a fair price please contact me.

Thanks

Can you see the leak?

There are lots of line on the battery side of the tractor.  I would have someone operate the tractor while you watch the right side, with the battery tray open, I bet you find it quick, and it probably won't be all that hard to fix.  These older tractors tend to wear through steel lines as many times maintenance in the past didn't get the lines put back in exactly the right spot, or missing line isolation/rubber parts.  Sometime a quick drain and braze, and you are back in business.

I am hoping it is an easy fix like that. I only have a small herd of cows, 16 cows and a bull and thirteen calves, so really the tractor is an overkill, but it sure would be nice to feed cows this winter in that cab and not have to use my pickup. Plus I put dirt around the stock tanks and things like that and the bucket would so come in handy. My problem is I cant afford to have a bunch of tractors in my collection. I depend on the money from selling that in order for me to justify keeping it, it has to be put to work. I already have two that are eye candy, dont need anymore of those. Anyway thanks for the tip, I have a friend of mine look at those lines.

The other thing is, I am a pretty big guy, lets just say big enough to burn diesel and I dont think the 7000 series cabs had a lot of room did they?

I know you think your operation is small, but may I offer this.......

First of all and foremost, it is YOUR operation, and you need to do what you think is best, but I would throw this out there.  Your loader combination is not overkill for those tasks.  Moving bunks, hauling manure, loading hay, etc. etc. etc. would be either slow or pushing the limits of smaller Kabota sized or D17 sized loaders, and yes the cab makes a huge difference in the winter.  I am not saying it can't be done in a smaller loader, as it certainly can, but I imagine if you asked every owner of an operation your size, that owned a smaller tractor loader combination, many if not most would tell you there are many times a bigger loader would make a difference.  Given what the smaller newer tractor loader combinations cost these days, you may have less money into what you have, and have the convenience of the bigger rig, not to mention if it really is overkill, you should never break it.
