Well guys, bought a 1981 7580 Serial number 2803 at a auction over the weekend. Top pivot needs to be rebuilt, so its at the local dealer for that. Top shaft vibrates and has slop. Whats the best way to go about that? New or rebuilt old shaft? Anything else to look for? Overall the tractor don't "look" half bad. Planning on new cab kit, hopefully can order a grey kit for it. But anything else to look for? let me know.

Thanks Guys

Pics of it!

As far as the top shaft, my 81 that was bought earlier in the year has the same issue, the CV joint  and rear u-joint seem great, so I think I will have a local well reputed driveline shop weld in a new slip yoke.

Dad's new 7580 (1978 or 79, IIRC just traded 6 older new holland balers for it, IMO he did well, he thinks I talked him into it and it wasn't a good deal :) ) has a aftermarket setup with no CV joint, but I think only on the bottom shaft for driving the rear axle. It has a large "pillow block" bearing bolted to a threaded piece of solid square stock that is welded to the frame. I need to look at it, but I think it still has a slip yoke, but no more CV, and 3 u-joints instead.

As far as advice, I am still quite the 4wd allis amateur, but I will repeat what has been told to me. Grease it daily with good grease! :) my 81 7580 was religiously greased by the PO, and it shows. no hinge slop at all.

Gleaner: the properly engineered and built combine.

If you need parts for your Gleaner, we are parting out A's through L2's, so we may be able to help.

CV joint on top shaft needs replaced. Sounds stupid but last few years it has been cheaper to get new CV's for our 8550's than have rebuilt.  also check the splines in the telescoping part of the shaft, they can get sloppy and cause vibration also

No 8010 went to another allis guy by Abbotsford. Tranny is junk in the 8010 though. The 7580 needs engine work. Injectors are in backwards....

Yeah. This is a "53" block cummins in the 8010. So sooner or later she will crack.

On the top CV joint shaft, I'm I correct that it is a 6C series joint?
