I'm have a D17 diesel SER IV. I need engine block, either
complete engine or short block. any idea where to get either
one in Maryland. A complete engine will be less work.

I just did a complete overhaul on mine. I would recommend you build one instead of buying one that runs. The sleeves have problems with dropping in the block and then headgaskets don't hold long term. It gets expensive in a hurry to repair sunken sleeves.

Sunken sleeves are not that hard to fix.
You can have the block machined and an insert installed to bring them up to the proper level or you can use Belzona Super Metal (1111) to act as a shim.  Have done this on some industrial engines with no problems.
